No -- for residents of the cable franchise area (which includes the City of Shakopee, Jackson and Louisville township) use of our public access channel is FREE!
Stop by the Shakopee Community Center and fill out a "User/Organization Registration Form." The form supplies us with all of the information needed to register a new user. A valid State/Government issued photo ID is required.
Programs may be dropped off or mailed to the Shakopee Community Center or Shakopee City Hall. Please identify materials and submissions as items for Shakopee Public Access.
All programs must be submitted ready-to-cablecast and accompanied by a completed “Program Submission Form.” This form supplies the facility with information needed for cablecast of the submission (i.e., program title, running time, content description, and more). Submissions are accepted on DVD only. All submission media must also be labeled with the program name, producer’s name and phone number.
All setup, program production, and editing is the responsibility of the user. Staff is not permitted to create, edit, modify or alter program content submitted by users.
Some programs require users to obtain a signed “Permission to Cablecast Form” from the group organizing the event, a group representative (i.e., band or choir), and/or the individual performer (i.e., speaker or presenter). The “Permission to Cablecast Form” was created to balance the interests of users creating programming for cablecast with individuals’ right to privacy and to control their intellectual property. The permission form is typically required when programs contain content focused on minors, copyright material, and/or intellectual property.
What happens after a submission?
Submitted programs are first reviewed by SPA staff for compliance with SPA policy. SPA does not view every submission from start to finish, however the submissions are spot reviewed for technical quality and compliance with SPA policy.
Once the program has been accepted for cablecast the program will be scheduled for cablecast on Shakopee Public Access Cable Channel 15. It can take one to two weeks for a submitted program to be placed in the schedule and receive its first airing.
Program replay, timeslot and frequency will be determined by the City Telecommunications Coordinator. Weekly SPA15 schedules are available on this website (click here), and are published in Shakopee Valley News. However, published schedules are subject to change. Watch the Shakopee Public Access Cable Channel 15 bulletin board for the most up to date information regarding playback schedules.
Shakopee Public Access has a “Policy Handbook” that details the complete rules, regulations and guidelines, and includes all SPA forms. The rules, regulations, and forms have been adopted to maintain a professional cablecast appearance on the channel; and for the protection of SPA users, staff, equipment, and facilities.
