No previous experience is needed. Simply call (952) 233-9500 at least 24 hours in advance or come to the Community Center front desk during regular business hours to reserve equipment and/or the editing suite. Reservations are accepted on a first come first served basis.
A full, portable studio, is also available for checkout. However, users are required to be trained on this system before checkout. Please call (952) 233-9545 at least 48 hours in advance if you are interested in checking out the portable studio.
First time users of any video production equipment, the editing suite, or portable studio will need to complete some preliminary paperwork and show a State/Government photo ID.
Currently Available Equipment
Below is a listing of the equipment currently available for checkout.
All of our camcorders record in MiniDV format. Any user checking out SPA equipment is eligible to receive free Mini-DV tapes for use in creating their program. SPA will allow each user a total of 12 MiniDV tapes out over any given period. If the 12 tape limit has been reached and no resulting programs have been submitted, no additional free tapes will be provided until a program is submitted from the previous 12 tapes.
Each camera kit includes two batteries and comes in a carrying case. Any additional equipment, such as microphones, tripods, lights or cables, must be reserved and checked out separately.

Portable Studio This kit features everything you need to create a multi-camera production. This system is designed to be checked out and used in the field, in your facility or in one of the Community Center's checkout rooms. If transporting this it will require at least a sedan sized vehicle and two people to lift. Training is required on this system prior to checkout. This system does require a power source. |

Light Kit This kit features two lights and stands. Users are encouraged to use a light kit when taping in an environment that has low lighting or limiting lighting. For example, if setting up in a room that has ceiling fluorescent lighting. It is highly likely that using a light kit will enhance the quality of the video you capture. We do not encourage users to setup a light kit to tape a performance that is not one they are producing or directing. In that situation we highly encourage users to ask the person producing or directing the event if it would be permitted. |

Wireless Mic Kits We offer two wireless microphone systems. Users are encouraged to check one or both of these out if you are planning to do interviews, record a presentation or speaker. AAA batteries, a battery tested and the cables to connect to the camcorder are included. |

Hand-held Mics We offer two handheld microphones. Users are encouraged to check one or both of these out if you are planning to do interviews, record a presentation or speaker. Handheld microphones require a XLR or XLR-Mini cable to connect to the camcorder. If you are unsure what to use contact SPA staff (952) 233 - 9545. |

Medium Tripods
We offer four medium sized tripods. These tripods offer more stablility, smoot pan and tilt and a level bubble. Although these tripods are bigger and heavier you will want these if you are taping an event with a lot of traffic or when it is important to have a stable image. |

Small tripods We offer two small sized tripods. These tripods perform best when you need to be on the move but still want a tripod to stable your image. This type will also perform decently if you are in a controlled environment i.e., an auditorium. |

Mono-pods
We offer two mono-pods. These mono-pods are a single leg post that combines extream mobility with the opritunity to have something to lean a camera on. So, if you need to be on the move and have concern about being able to take the time or have the space to setup a tripod, this is the solution for you. |
